The Museum of Warsaw proves that museum collections are not just a domain of curators. The institution decided to show appreciation for how visitors to its website select and combine objects from its collection, i.e. to applaud what’s usually perceived as private by websites of cultural institutions. After setting up an account, users may not only create their own collections, but also save, edit and publish them. Selected collections are showcased by the Museum on its website.
Themed collections as well as interpretations prepared by the museum itself are also available with descriptions, some are also illustrated with sound. When categorising its collection, the Museum of Warsaw made sure that the proposed categories are not just precise, but also appealing to the users, hence labels such as “The City by Night”, “Advertising” and “Fashion”.
