wikiGLAM actions and residencies
 research   education   re-use

The work of a Wikipedian-in-residence relies on cooperation between cultural institutions and the largest global online encyclopaedia, coordinating events created together with Wikipedia, openGLAM actions aimed at opening institutional collections, and supplementing Wikipedia with entries and data related to the given institution and its resources. In Poland, Wikipedia residencies have already taken place at the National Museum in Warsaw, the Museum of Łódź, the Poznań National Archives and Zachęta National Gallery of Art in Warsaw.

The main objective of such projects is to better describe a museum’s or gallery’s collection on Wikipedia, but the end result has usually a much broader impact. Some examples are Wikipedia marathons of editing the encyclopaedia or writing new articles organised as part of wikiGLAM’s cooperation with the POLONA National Library, digital university libraries, museums and the Kariatyda art and feminism collective.
