Muselfie is a mobile app that quickly took Instagram by storm. It is based on a simple idea to combine paintings from the National Museum in Warsaw with our own photographs (preferably selfies). The resulting collages may be edited (using filters, “drawing” with your finger, text editing, etc.) and shared with others, for instance on social media.

The paintings, chosen for such remixes, are in the public domain. The app is free of charge and works on devices equipped with Android and iOS. The idea and prototype were created through the experimental programme pursued by the Open Culture Studio, which combined cultural institutions with representatives of the creative sector and design thinking using a lab format. Their common goal was to find ways to present digitized heritage resources in a way that engages the public.
