Reading Images
 education   re-use

Digitized art does not automatically become available to users with special needs such as people with sensory disabilities. Through cooperation with over a dozen of museum and art foundations, “Reading Images” is a living proof that these kinds of obstacles can be overcome. The project grants easier access to a number of Polish museum and gallery collections. Digital copies of artworks are accompanied by audio descriptions as well as recorded descriptions in the Polish Sign Language. Apart from photographs, sculptures and paintings, the site also offers an overview of art-related terms in the form of an easy-to-read text and a video recording in Polish Sign Language.Creators of the site that already hosts hundreds of artworks aim to release an app that will enable easier access to its collections from mobile devices, as these are often more popular and easier to use in museums during guided tours, among others.
